PLAN 3D PUBLISHES SCIENTIFIC WORK

We presented an innovative scientific paper at the 2021 Congress of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand.

Last June 2021, the Plan 3D team, together with Dr. Carlos Morales, presented an innovative scientific paper at the 2021 Congress of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH).
The study presented to this important scientific society is entitled:

“Design of 3D guide for scaphoid fracture fixation assistance. First experience in Chile”.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of 3D guide placement for scaphoid fracture surgeries with K-wire (AK). For this purpose, simulated surgeries were performed on biomodels designed in 3D from a CT scan sample to 10 wrists of patients with scaphoid fracture. In addition, anatomical measurements were performed that could have practical relevance during surgery for this type of lesion.

The Biomodel included metacarpals, carpal bones, distal portion of the radius, ulna and even what would correspond to the patient’s skin. These 3D biomodels were operated on by performing standard percutaneous procedures for the management of scaphoid fractures both dorsally and volar.
In addition to the model, a guide template was designed (with entry of the AKs from the palmar). From the tomographic analysis and subsequent segmentation, the ideal position of the wire in the endomedullary canal of the scaphoid was calculated.
We believe that at the clinical level this guide would improve the accuracy of cannulated screw placement when surgically treating scaphoid fractures. In addition to significant time savings.

We are grateful for the important support of the company CLP Insumos Medicos, which actively cooperated in the project.

Once again our scientific advances are published abroad and we hope to continue making great strides for the benefit of patients.
